The Laid Table

There are places where the world seems to slow down.

The laid table is one of them.

It is a promise—of time, of encounter, of conversations unfolding slowly, of hands sharing food, of eyes meeting across a meal. For centuries, people have gathered around a table not only to eat, but to exchange stories, create memories and celebrate being together.

These paintings speak of those moments.

Fruit, vessels, flowers, leaves and ornaments step beyond their everyday function. They become independent presences, quiet protagonists within a poetic world. Every object possesses its own dignity, every form its own voice. Nothing is accidental; everything seems connected.

I am not interested in the still life as a faithful representation of reality. I am interested in its ability to evoke a state of mind. A plate can become a landscape, a bowl an entire universe, a piece of fruit a memory. Patterns grow like plants, plants dissolve into ornament, ornament carries traces of cultures, journeys and shared experiences.

The table thus becomes an image of our relationship with the world.

In a time increasingly shaped by speed and isolation, the experience of gathering together feels more precious than ever. These works remind us that beauty often begins with attention—with looking carefully at the ordinary things that quietly accompany our lives.

Perhaps hospitality is one of the most hopeful gestures we possess.

To set a table is to think of someone else. It is to make space—for conversation, for difference, for intimacy.

This exhibition understands the laid table not merely as a subject, but as a way of being.

An invitation to slow down.

To look again.

And to celebrate being together.
