Juan Carlos Batista

Juan Carlos Batista (Tenerife, 1960) moves between the surreal and the conceptual. Some concepts that are also present in his work are appropriation, irony and black humor. His work revolves around disappointment and the erratic drift of men, recurring themes that are not a guarantee of anything. Batista is a virtuous intellectual who skilfully handles the catalog of images and concepts that contemporary times offer, appropriating them and intervening to subvert their initial content, and weave them into a subtle and ironic plot. This is how the artist manifests the critical disenchantment that maintains with the reality that surrounds us.

Of his latest individual exhibitions, we highlight “Temores Infundado”s Kaplan Projects, “Carne Triste” at Casal Solleric, Contemprary art Cente, in Palma, “La Trinchera Errante” in El Aljibe of the Contemproray Art Inventigation Center, El Almacén in Lanzarote Spain. The individual project “Realidad Casi Humo” was held at La Regenta Art Center in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, at the Juan Ismael Contemporary Art Center in Fuerteventura in 2017, as well as at the TEA (Tenerife Space for the Arts) a year earlier. The artist has participated in national and international art fairs such as PULSE Miami (United States) or ARCO Madrid (Spain), among others.

The art works by Juan Carlos Batista ar part of many privat and institutionals collections, and the artist is part of the Biblioteca de Artistas de Canarias, ( Canaria Island Lybrary) as one of the most important artist, from Spain in this last decades.
