Florentine-trained artist and designer Caterina Roppo, developed an early attraction for studying textiles which inspired her to begin exploring textile manipulation and material interpolation.
The «trayma» project stems from a dramatic event in the artist’s life, which triggered a severe post-traumatic stress disorder. This marked the beginning of a protracted period of research into the “wounds” found in natural and architectural environments, and her probing of their contours and perspectives to create an aesthetic synergy formed through visual reality and the world of the subconscious.
Her experience with fibres and their structures has led to a long and successful collaboration with Milano Unica, where she is in charge of the research department, collaborating with companies, laboratories and artists to create innovative materials. The study of new shapes through perspective, the construction of Jacquard flottés and three-dimensionality are the basis of her work. Roppo participated in group shows like “Cramum” (Busto Arsizio, 2024), “Beautifool minds” (Cavallerizza Torino, 2023), “Baitball #03” (Fondazione Pino Pascali Polignano, 2023) among others. During ger career she has received various awards such as Vettor (Bari, 2024), Arte Laguna Prize (Incalmi, 2024) among others.
