Alexa Grande

Alexa Grande’s (Madrid, 1986) artworks often confronts different realities to think about tensions and limits.

In her work we can observe the tensions and clashes produced between predefined structures through the movement of pathos, the movements of the earth and accidental transformations. The accident as a collision between two limits is a form of imposition of the movement that produces a paradigm shift and brings us closer to understanding the absurdity of the static, the hegemonic perspective and the arrangement of borders.

In her large-format oil paintings, she subtly abstracts scenes from the everyday environment on different levels or layers that require constant reorientation of the viewer, who ultimately must ensure that the perception of the present expands. These ideas are based on the work of Alexa Grande, in form of imperfect structures such as self-construction architecture, nets, fences, fragmented glass or demolished infrastructures. All of them are logical elements in the process of disuse and changed towards a space free of authority.

Alexa Grande is graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid. During the last two years of her degree, Grande received a scholarship to finish her studies in Germany, at the HfbK University of Fine Arts in Hamburg with the professor Norbert Schwontkowski and Anselm Reyle. Then she received, a Leonardo Da´Vinci scholarship. Her professional career includes awards and international artistic residencies. She has exhibited at contemporary art festivals, museums and galleries in Madrid, Hamburg, Berlin, Helsinki, Bremen, Maracaibo, Mexico City, Aruba, Mallorca, Menorca, Ceutí, Havana, Cádiz or Seville. The physical or geographical distance, so present in her life, and the idea of the limit, as constant core ideas in her work.
