Barbara Viel

Bárbara Viel (Nantes, 1971) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Mallorca.

For the artist, interpersonal human relationships are the central theme of her work. Viel absorbs the other’s emotions and tries to capture them. The artist approaches her anxieties, her shortcomings, her permanent contradictions, her fears, her expectations, her thirst for power in a world of the dominant and the dominated. The delicacy of her lines does not treat the figures as an imposition, Viel approaches them with humility and indulgence. The constant theme in her work is social inequality and human dignity.

After graduating in Applied Arts in Paris, she began to travel and chose Mallorca, which was her port for many years. Here she discovered the engraving at the Miró Foundation in Palma de Mallorca. She then continued to explore it at the BBK in Berlin. This experience with engraving greatly influenced her painting. Her solo trips allowed her to exhibit in different countries such as Japan, Spain, England, Portugal, Hungary, among others. In 2022 she received first prize at the XIII Inca Plastic Arts Contest.
